NOW: Venture Bros., Eureka

RETURNING (in order of importance): Veronica Mars, The Office, House, 24, Lost, Prison Break, My Name is Earl

NEW: Studio 60, The Nine, Six Degrees

MAYBE: Smith, The Unit

DOWN THE LINE: Traveler

WANT TO WATCH, WON'T HAVE ACCESS: The Wire, Rome

I try to limit myself to six TV shows a season, and for the fall it looks like I will have a guaranteed set of nine (if one counts the Earl/Office block as the equivalent of the other hour-long shows). Something on this list, therefore, is going to have to suck hard so that I can drop it, or I'm going to need to get a new yardstick for the amount of TV I can comfortably watch a week.

NEW: I'm not sure, I haven't looked into the new shows much. The Nine sounded good with its cast.

MAYBE: The Wire (assuming I can catch up by the time S4 premieres)

DOWN THE LINE: 24, Rome, Extras, Sopranos

All

This was my initial line-up:

NOW: Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Big Brother, Entourage, Hell's Kitchen, Project Runway, Real World Key West, Real World/Road Rules: Fresh Meat, Rescue Me

RETURNING: Amazing Race, Battlestar Galactica, Boston Legal, Lost, My Name is Earl, The Office, Rome, Veronica Mars, The Wire

NEW: Studio 60, Ugly Betty

MAYBE (RETURNING): Gilmore Girls, Prison Break, Survivor

MAYBE (NEW): 30 Rock, Heroes, Kidnapped

Then I looked at the grid and realized that on Mondays and Tuesdays I'd be watching shows from 8-11pm. Wednesdays are 8:30-11pm. Thursdays, using the DVR, is 8-10pm. Fridays I get a break where it's 8-9 and then 10-11. Ditto for Sundays.

Based on all of this I think most of those Maybes will become Nos.

Not a hater, just didn't get on the boat when it sailed and now I feel like I would be missing out on a whole bunch of backstory. Is it the kind of show that I could just jump in and enjoy?

(Also, wife tried it and then deleted it from TiVo, but that excuse is made quietly.)

I think I forgot the comedies like Reno 911 and Sunny in Philly on my list.

I'd suggest renting the season 1 DVDs, give it 4 or 5 episodes and see how it grabs you.

Technically you can start at the beginning of each season but you miss out on some fun stuff that way.
