Looking forward to giving this one a try. It can't be as bad as the previous attempt...can it?

I rather liked the pilot at ComicCon.

Mark Valley is great in it, but I think the break-out character will be Jackie Earle Haley's character.

I'm cautiously looking forward to this one; I love the concept and Milligan's take on the character is superb. After Boston Legal, though, I just can't imagine Valley as Christopher Chance at all.

It was Boston Legal that made me think he should play Captain America. So straight-laced and classic hero mold.

From what I know, there's no face-changing and presumably, therefore, no Milligan-esque identity angst. It looks like it's being played like an early Brosnan-era Bond film, all quips and explosions in an action-movie version of 'reality'.

But who cares? Chi McBride!

>>But who cares? Chi McBride!<<

I know!

There's one bit in a commercial that i saw last night where Chance is telling Chi which wire to cut on a bomb through the phone, and you hear a metallic sound followed by Chi McBride-ing "Did you just flip a coin???"  That alone is getting me to tune in.

Yeah, as much as loved Milligan's series, and I really did, I'm looking forward to the series even though it looks nothing like the source.  I've liked Valley since Keen Eddie and always thought he deserved better than his character on BL.  and McBride is always just awesome.

Yeah, it looks like a whole load of fun. I'm going to introduce my girlfriend to The Wire, so I might save this for some between-episodes decompression.

I would love to see Milligan's HT miniseries turned into a mindfuck movie, though. Maybe in a few years...

Out of curiousity, what do you mean by that?

Do you mean the original source material or the Milligan, angsty, revision?

Or are you just down on the lack of face-changing?

Wow, I just made the mistake of watching a trailer.

An interesting take on the usual problems with Japanese -- he gets the intonation right, and sounds like he's speaking with confidence...in much the same way Belushi did. But the words he's speaking resemble no language I know. With the meet and greet scene, I was literally trying to work out if he thought he was good at Japanese, but was actually mangling it horrible, and they were just being patronizing, but when "Who are you" gets rendered as something that sounds more Russian than Japanese, I have to conclude that they had the dialogue machine translated.

For Canucks, this is actually premiering tonight at 10 as CTV attempts to fit it into a scheduling hole.

Turns out 10 p.m. is really 8 p.m. Mountain - weird that they're essentially broadcasting it at the same time across the nation. I did figure this out in time to TiVo it.

Maybe they wanted or there was a contractual requirement to try and limit chances to record.

But, it looks like we're either gonna be ahead or behind the US all season - the permanent slot is Monday at 8.

It happens from time to time. It might have to do with the simulcasting schedule for the rest of the evening. Do you know if ep 2 will be on 18 Jan?

Zap2It says yes.

Without really spoiling anything, the Pilot was OK. That said, whoever made the decision on the audio set for the final fight sequence needs to be fired because it just took any intensity whatsoever out of the scene.

Well, that was as fun as I remembered. Haley was great and that train fight was awesome. Being an ex-Marine, Mark Valley actually looks believable holding a gun and fighting.  I have a very good feeling about this show.

I liked it a lot. I only know Valley from Fringe, so it was nice to see that he has a sense of humor and some depth to him.

Haley's first scene was outstanding.

Yeah, now that I'm free to be more liberal: you've got this set piece fight scene, your lead and the assassin are tossing each other around the room, being elbowed, gut punched, etc, and you decide to overwrite all the ambient noise this would create with what appears to be the fucking theme song*. So, now you've got two guys beating the shit out of each other but no actual sounds of them beating the shit out of each other save the occasional grunt that slips through a music lull.

It's like watching the fight deaf and only knowing someone just got hurt by the look on their face; only you frequently can't see them.

* PS: the theme/title sequence sucks. It's like something from the 60's.

Emerson Codd and Rorshach?  I'm in!  This was pretty fun.  Good lead, good supporting cast and good guest stars too.  Good cotton candy TV.

Kinda, but the functional difference is that the Avengers sequence actually tells you something about the show.

This comes across as just a hodge-podge of brown-scale images against one of the most sedate action show themes i think I've ever heard.

The sequence is fine graphically.

The music/theme, though, is incredibly... just... wrong.

Totally agreed.  I actually really liked the visuals from the theme.  The music though...ugh.  Bad throughout the episode really.

Overall I liked it.  I thought it was a bit middling until the scene where Chance and the killer see each other in the crawlspace - from there on it was good solid fun.  The fight scene on on the train obviously the highlight - if they can get action like that every episode (unlikely?) I'll be waching.

Honestly the quips could have been a little quippier, too.  And hopefully McBride willl have more to do than be exasperated by Chance and Gurrero(?)...

I guess I can't win them all.

I found the show kinda dull and cliched.  Also i want a master of disguise.
