Title pretty much says it, Best Buy has most of their Fox TV DVD boxes on sale for $19.99, both in-store and online.
Any of these worth throwing a $20 at?
Dark Angel
Firefly
Tru Calling
Prison Break
Wonderfalls
Arrested Development

I'm pretty sure you can pretty much find Firefly and Wonderfalls between $16.99 - $19.99 year round, so I would pay for the normally high $ stuff now, and fill-in with those shows later.
I picked up:
House S1 and S2 (better deal than the S1 + S2 for $50 a few weeks ago)
Buffy S4 (fat set) it scanned in at $49.99, but she price adjusted.
The Shield S5
and
X-files S6 (slim set), they had the fat set of S8, but I already dropped too much $, and thought buyins S8 would necessitate buying S7 to fill in the gap -- which I thought would ultimately be a waste of cash. I now own S3,4,5,6 of X-files and I think that will be it for me in regard to the series (NOTE: I started another thread on X-files recomendations in anticipation of this sale).
Great, Great Deal!!!!
Just to reiterate, a few of the titles you mentioned are at the low end of this weeks $5 - $30 BB Fox DVD sale. While many are cheaper elsewhere vs. the $19.99 deal.
Tru Calling S2 is only $12.14 at Amazon (although S1 is about $40)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000AO9BSS/thevhive-20
Arrested Development -- All seasons can be purchased for < or = $19.99
Firefly -- I am 90% sure that Target's everyday instore price for this item is $17. Although when I web searched for you, I am given the Amazon price of $30.
Dark Angel S1 is $24.99 at Amazon, but S2 is $17.99.
Wonderfalls is $24.99 now at Amazon, so the Best Buy deal does beat it but only by $5.
The series you highlighted, are not the real $ deals of this week's ad.
Cool. I was just trying to save you more money by mentioning some of the series you were after are cheaper elsewhere. For instance, you would have saved an additional $4 + tax on all 3 seasons of Arrested Development through Amazon.... not earth shattering, but it would have saved a trip to Best Buy.
Enjoy the shows, AD is one of my favorites.
I'd say Dark Angel is worth it at that price too, but I agree only S1. S2 was substantially less good. And S1 works very well as a self-contained unit if you ignore the very last scene.
OTOH, Sci-Fi is currently syndicating it, I think.

I watched a few episodes of Dark Angel but didn't like it. I do however really like James Cameron. Are the last two episodes that he directed worth seeking out?

Do you know if the eps you saw were S1 or S2? IMO, there really was that much of a difference -- while some of the S2 eps worked OK on their face, the premise of the show was a lot less interesting.
That said, aren't the Cameron ones at the end of S1? I don't know that they'd pack much punch if you hadn't built up the history with the characters over the first season.

I had the pleasure of introducing a (now new friend) to Firefly and Arrested Development.
He totally fell arse-over-tea kettle for both series. I giggle when he found out that the Firefly series was axed without an ending. He demanded we go to rent the movie right that minute. And we did.
I have a converted and a new TV friend. (next is a matter of finding mutual time to watch more tv together.)

You wouldn't believe the collection of softballs, baseballs, Spaldeens, soccer balls, and basketballs I've accumulated.
What I haven't decided is whether to ignore the doorbell on Halloween or poison the candy.
Mostly season 1 as i tried to get into it. I may have seen bits of Season 2.
According to imdb, Cameron just directed the final two episodes of S2.
Eoin
Oh. They weren't very good. Or maybe they were pretty good but that they were in service of a story that wasn't very good. I suppose it couldn't hurt.

Well, unless you're on pay cable, it's hard to do a directorial "voice" on directing for TV. But yeah, Rene Echevarria's sub-Morlocks storyline had pretty much run out of gas at that point (and I usually like Echevarria, but what the FUCK was he thinking?), and Cameron directing it was a last ditch attempt to save the show from cancellation- which it almost did, had not Whedon impressed the Fox brass enough with "The Train Job" to give Firefly its shot.
In the end the finale is actually best known for being where WWE superstar Lita suffered a career wrecking injury.

Hmm. I'm still working through my Christmas DVD's (and to be honest, a few from last Christmas), so as tempting as those Simpsons sets are, I think I'll have to pass. However, Kathy's birthday is Monday and maybe there's a little something there that she'd dig.

Yeah... that's the problem with the tempting $19.99 price... it easily leads to a DVD backlog that becomes almost insurmountable. This year I've bought 24 S3-5; X-files, S2-S6, Prison Break S1, House S1 and S2, Buffy S4, and quite a few other sets that I ended up gifting to family members. I have probably watched a total of about 20% (which is a generous estimate) of the eps on the above discs.
In the case of X-files, I have decided just to cherry pick the best episodes, and not force myself to sit through all the mythology bullshit. Adapting a "you don't have to watch every episode" mentality was a tough hump to get over, but it has made watching the shows much more enjoyable. The X-files discs (particularly S3-5) are still chock full of quality episodes that $19.99 is well worth the price.
Of course, with a show like 24 you pretty much have to watch every episode, so watching them comes down to devoting a sufficient amount of time to complete a season (which I haven't been able to do this last 6 months).

Amazon is having a 60% off sale on Fox TV DVDs
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000097281
A lot of the series we have discussed above are included. X-files seems to vary between $19.99 and $23.99 per season, but there is a bunch of good stuff at or below $19.99.
Take Care,

Note to Mod: any chance of changing the title of this thread to Cheap TV on DVD, and maybe sticky it? I didn't want to start a new thread, and I think some people like pointers to cheap TV sets without having to monitor DVDtalk and the like.
