That isn't very strange. It matches generic gender based shopping styles. Men want to go in, get what they are looking for and leave. Women want to browse, make sure they have the right purchase and item.  Real life isn't exactly down gender lines of course but in my experience that gender breakdown is pretty valid.

How's eBay looking at the minute? I've come back to the UK to find myself faced with a stack of long-forgotten TPBs of varying quality (everything from Charley's War hardcovers to Batman trades to obscure NBM arty things) that my parents would very much like me to sell off.

They're all in good nick - they're mostly review copies - but I'm a bit concerned that I'll drop a small fortune on listing the things, only to garner no interest whatsoever. Looking at all the week-old auctions with 0 bids isn't building my confidence either.

Bearing in mind that I'm sitting on about 300 books here, would I make more money putting them up at the 99p asking price for free and hoping they'll be talked up, or trying to haggle for bags of the things at my local comic shop?

It depends on what the trades are. For example, if one of the Batman trades is Prodigal, congrats! For Marvel and DC, you should check if the trades are OOP or not. If they're OOP, they may go for quite a bit. The Charley's War HCs should do alright. For the NBM stuff your best bet is probably to put it up in a lump lot.

I should add that prices are generally £3-5 and I'm happy to lump multiple purchases together so you can save on postage.

Only a day left if you want to buy my first batch of cheap Vertigo/DC trades. I also added a tonne of Batman comics today, including Paul Dini's Batman: Detective, some Gotham Central trades, the Matt Wagner Batman: Year One trades and Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's Catwoman: When in Rome, which is actually surprisingly good.

Tomorrow I'll be adding Star Wars, Bone, Wildstorm and DC team books, plus various bits and bobs. Clicky for bargains!

So I sold an item about a month agao, and now the seller is claiming she never received it. Thing is, there was tracking on the item, and the post office said it was delivered a week or so ago prior to her claiming otherwise. Today, she opened up a dispute. Anyone ever through that when there's evidence clearly saying the item was delivered?

Just scan or send a photo of your proof in when ebay contacts you through their dispute process. Should be just fine.

Argh, I wish I'd seen this before I paid £12 for mine.

(Rassin frassin ordered the Oni edition and got sent the crappy 4th Estate edition and had to get another copy off Amazon)

What's the difference between the Oni and the Fourth State editions? Surely there can't be too big a shortage of Scott Pilgrim 6...

The 4th Estate one is taller and wider than the Oni one, has crap binding and is printed on really awful thin, slippery paper. It's the official UK edition and the Oni one is much harder to come by here.

If they paid with Paypal and you have the tracking number you can add the tracking number to the Paypal transaction page in your account. Paypal will then be able to see that the item has been delivered. I'm assuming the tracking proves delivery to the correct address, and hasn't been left with a neighbour or something.

It is very, very, very, very, very common for books to have separate editions in different countries. Oni don't exist in the UK, Fourth Estate do. It's not complicated!

It just doesn't seem to happen for comics very much. Have any of Oni's other books been put out by other publishers in the UK?

Dunno about Oni. But Canongate publish the Complete Peanuts in the UK. Jonathan Cape publish David Boring and Ice Haven and Wilson in the UK. Pantheon publish Jimmy Corrigan in the UK. Knockabout publish From Hell and The Playwright in the UK. Etc!

Let's say I have some Uncanny X-men (issues 147 all the way to 350 something almost complete run), X-factors, Defenders (almost complete run of first print originals that I stupidly traded my Amazing Spiderman run for), New Mutants and some Wildstorm trash and I was going to put them up on e-bay as I am moving. Let's just say. How would you guys go about this?

I would cherry pick the key issues, and then sell the rest in lots.

By cherry pick, I mean put the individual issues that command the most $ in their own auction, and then group the rest in lots by storyline/storylines.

Probably a lot less hassle and even or better money to sell them to mycomicshop.com or someplace similar, especially for several hundred books. If you're interested in credit as opposed to cash it's an even better deal. I unloaded most of my singles to them last year and turned it into two lovely bookshelves full of TPBs and hardcovers.

This is actually what I was thinking. Then I don't have to deal with the hassle of people asking me assorted innane questions I answered when I wrote the listing and then the shipping and collecting. I hate to part with some of them. I worked very hard collecting them every week and cherish those moments biking to the shop and getting my pull list, but I live on the third floor. I have no desire to carry these all over creation for the fifth time. (It occurs to me that I am doing that in selling them.)

I was the same way, but after two moves in seven years, during which I added almost nothing to the collection, I realized it was finally time. And having all these new TPBs in the house has gotten TAW into reading them, so it was a double win!

On a related note, what sort of quality do comics have to be to get any interest on ebay? I never bagged and boarded my comics, they're not ripped to shreds or anything but they're by no means mint.

It depends on what you are offering. I  have had insane questions from people asking about HOW I bag and board before when I was breaking my collection up and selling it after I was laid off. I would sometimes tell people that I stored them next to my cats litter box and they may have been scratched up for cover. Not a good idea, but I was pissy for being laid off and reduced to selling possessions on ebay.

Mostly I found it was a matter of what I set the pricing at and what I was offering. If they can clearly see the picture of these and can tell that the stapling wasn't offset, they were cool with it. Floppies don't make as much because mostly they're scanned and then passed on again. In my experience. I got rid of a lot of Amazing Spiderman variant covers with just the bag no board and my Punishers were the same way.

In all my ebaying experience I had one guy return the comics which was disappointing. I am not sure why.
