Check in!
Looking good so far after 5 minutes of browsing, although I'm assuming the Preview option isn't active yet?
I know there's no Mark as Unread, but where's the Mark as Read?
Also, I posted my previous message as the third message in the thread, but it's now the second (?).
Oh, and embedding YouTube videos doesn't work at all, must less with HTML on both sides.
There's no Mark As Read either - do you use it often?
Irritatingly server time differences mean that all the posts created after I set the forum up are out by 8 hours. I'll edit later.
You may need to embed YouTube vids using the HTML button in the text editing widget. What went wrong?
There is a Preview but I disabled it after I tested it and it went awry. Same with Edit. A lot of things work well except for one insignificant bug but I wanted to get everything present working and disable anything that was obviously broken so I can test this launch. New features will be added in on probably a more or less daily basis.
Hm. The forums list isn't populating when you click Forums. Also, many of the messages that were posted in the last couple of days are gone, but I assume that's because you had to grab the backup from Dreamhost, and it wasn't quite up to date.
Never mind the forums list thing. It's sorted now. Either a glitch, or something you were fixing as I was complaining.
I was fixing it as you were complaining.
OK - we are now on a VPS. Dreamhost helpfully provided me with a backup of the database but it's not got all the very latest posts in it so I'm afraid we lost a bit of stuff but nobody posted anyway because the site was broken.
The site should now run like shit off a shovel pretty much all the time as we have guaranteed CPU time and I have total control over the server. I may fuck it up a bit in the next few days as Linux administration is not my strong point.
Yep back again.
It seems to work.
God, does it look like shite on IE6.
Seemingly there is a fairly catastrophic recurring error involving table locking where the entire DB gets clogged up with dead connections every now and again. This is what happened on Dreamhost I think and it's happening here too.
$25 a month plus every waking second of my time since I got home on Friday and probably for the rest of my life.
I'm getting a lot of odd regurgitation of ancient threads, but only on the V forum proper. Stuff like all the old Nexus War threads showing up at random, and leading to blank pages when I try to view them.
I'm getting similar errors with old posts. Some lead to blank pages, while others lead to a page that's basically the thread list and actual posts merged into a giant vertical page.
Right - I only give a shit about showstopping errors for the moment. I think I have solved the "blank page" error, but we'll see what happens when the yanks get on board at about 3PM GMT. Do not tell me about features I obviously haven't actually written.
IE6/Opera users: hang in there!
Ironically, this was the one thread where I'd consistently get the blank page problem whatever I'd do, so yeah, whatever you did, it seems to have fixed that.
For some reason I seem to be the only one who has his name both as a name and a nickname in his profile, and I can't edit the profile. Not that it really bothers me.
Yeah, I'll make user profile stuff modifiable. It's all based on what you entered into the old Beehive system. Most people put in proper firstname lastname so they're coming up with nice full names.
Can't you make it spit random derogatory Northern monikers everytime Fellows logs in?
Smooth sailing so far, working really well actually.
My goodness, It looks 21st century. Nevermind the performance improvement, it looks wonderful. Impressive.
