Right, enough of this multi-thread/other-thread-clogging nonsense. Stick your solicitation comments, for all companies, here. Just like the Weekly Comics thread... but Monthly. Oooh.

(Someone please make this sticky. Missus.)

THE ESCAPISTS #1

Written by Brian K. Vaughan, art by Philip Bond and Eduardo Barreto, cover by Frank Miller.

THE GREMLINS HC

Written by Roald Dahl, art by Artists and Writers Guild, Inc., and The Disney Studios.

BMWFILMS.COM PRESENTS THE HIRE

By Matt Wagner, Bruce Campbell, Mark Waid, Kurt Busiek, Steve Grant, Francisco Ruiz Velasco, Killian Plunkett and Claude St. Aubin.

96 pages, $12.95.

----
Thoughts:
The BMW thing could be good, i like anthologies.

The Escapists could be great if Vaughan doesn't go do the retro comics route. Bond's art is always a joy.

Dahl thing could be interesting, but it's more of a curiosity than a genuine purpose. I don't recall ever reading the Gremlins, and i thought i'd read all his kids stories. Dahl without Blake will be weird though.

I'm tentative on the Escapists, but not on its artwork. Bond is only doing issue 1, but then Steve Rolston is coming on-board, and he has seriously upped his game. Observe:

Pretty.

I read one or two of the BMW: THE HIRE comics and didn't think they were much cop. Which is a pity because I always want more Killian Plunkett.

What I find particularly interesting is that THE HIRE was announced as a six issue mini-series, not four. #5-6 were never published and apparently never will be... which is really a shame since one of those two was supposed to be by Katsuhiro Otomo.

Does anyone know if THE ESCAPISTS #1 is just a reprint of the story from the last ish of the now-cancelled Escapist quarterly anthology? (It was pretty good, and Bond's art was lovely.) I'm assuming so, since Bond was apparently only doing the first episode of that story, but couldn't find confirmation when I searched a couple of weeks ago...

Yep, #1 is just a reprint of the now-cancelled anthology. #2 will be the first Steve Rolston chapter, and what was intended for the next issue of the anthology.

I defended Miller's work in DKSA, as I really enjoyed it. I finally switched over to the Miller draws like shit now with the Black Canary cover he did, and this one just further cements it for me. It's a real shame, watching Miller degenerate into a really crappy T+A artist, especially as he is just no good at it anymore. I mean, compare this to the first or second Sin City art and realize just how far he has fallen.

Premise seems interesting, and i've always tought Grey and Palmotti were an underrated pairing. Doubtless sink without a trace, but i'll try it.

As the world's only Lobdell fan, i'll be having a peak at this.

Okay, so Morrison on Batman. Cool. I know a little bit about Batman. Morrison is also slated to take over/relaunch a couple of Wildstorm titles I think. I know nothing about the Wildstorm universe, though I do have the first twelve issues of The Authority tucked away in a box somewhere yet to be read. What do I need to pick up to get up to speed, or is the Captain Atom mini going to render "that which has gone before" moot anyway?

Since own them, you really should read Ellis' Authority, as it's one of the best superhero comics ever.

Very little's known about Morrison's plans for the Authority and Wilcats, but his intentions for the latter apparently draw on Joe Casey's version, which in turn built off of Alan Moore's run. That also means Morrison is likely ignoring Pfeifer's Captain Atom, since it completely upended Casey's Wildcats.

Byrne will probably hammer the "I'm just an art robot" note when discussing this project, as he did with his recent Action collaboration with Gail, oblivious/unmindful of how condescending it sounds.
