I used to believe more in "ignore them and they go away", but it doesn't always work, and more to this point, it makes nice people feel shitty while the troublemaker trips merrily around not caring. So I'm all for "delete and forget them". Don't leave other people's grafitti on your blog.

If Al is here getting sympathy and advice from us, it's already A Thing. Burn the bastard and get back to positive energy activities.

Or, short version: I'm with James, he said it well.

City College of New York

Every other school in the CUNY system announces they're closed well in advance of Wednesday morning classes. Not City College. They send out an e-mail the night before saying that the school will be open. The storm hits and no new e-mail saying the school is closed. The Public Safety office Web site still says the school is open. The alert system we all signed up for doesn't send a text message to indicate any changes.

7:45am I arrive amidst a throng of students and other faculty and am told by surly security guards that, "The school's closed," with a nice tinge of condescension that really says, "What are you, fucking retarded? You didn't know the school's closed?" Kids are checking the site with their phones and it still says it's open.

8:00am the site is finally changed to say the school is closed. Still no e-mail. Still no text alert. MY CLASS IS SUPPOSED TO BEGIN AT 8AM! I have students that travel from Staten Island, who have to leave the house at 5am to make it to class on time. By the time I get home I have a dozen e-mails from students who trekked all the way to school only to be turned away by the cunts at the entrances.

City College. On the fucking list!

My favourite pizza/sub shop, on the fucking list for apparently going under! I could see it coming since for their last few months of operation, they were only open sporadically; even the drivers were complaining about how they never knew if they would be open. Their food was ridiculously good, and I live in a town with alot of decent pizza/subs shops, but they were good at everything. Most other places have decent pizza, but not calzones, or good subs, but not pizza. And they ut more garlic on their regular pizza than anyone else locally. Sigh.

Whoever the fuck is responsible for setting a bomb off in my hometown 20 minutes ago, on the fucking list. I don't know which side you're from, i presume you're some cuntinuity IRA fucktard, but I don't care. Newry has seen a vast increase in wealth and prosperity since wankers like you stopped making people scared to invest and shop and fucking live normal lives. Now you're going to scare away the nice southerners who are verry kindly spending fuckloads during a recession.

I hope to fuck you haven't hurt anyone. It's 1040pm on a monday night, so hopefully there shouldn't be too many pedestrians in that area of town. I hope there weren't many cops or lawyers in the courthouse. Fucking fuck man. It's 2010. People are so far past this shit. Fuck off.

Sorry, had to rant.

Looks like no one was hurt. As long as it doesn't deter southerners from spending their lovely money, then it's not so bad. It does mean a longer commute for our criminals and lawyers, but it's probably best to get both of those undesirable elements out of Newry anyway.

Salmonella, for infecting TAW, and keeping her in the hospital for the past five days: ON THE LIST!

She started getting ill last Monday, and was absolutely wretched by the time we took her to the ER Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, she'd been admitted, and they quickly performed an endoscopy and colonoscopy, and uncovered all sorts of fucked-up-ness of her colon, esophagus, and pancreas; and she's only just been able to start eating solids again.

But she's now developed insanely painful headaches that not even humongous doses of Percocet can handle, so a neurologist has come in, and performed a CT scan of her thoughtpeach, to see if he can figure it out. Once they get the headaches under control, she'll be able to go home, which will mean all sorts of fun at home for me.

Even with our above-average Yankee health insurance, I can only imagine what the fucking bill is going to look like.

That you - or anyone - should have to worry about such fiscal details at all due to problems like this is an obscenity in its own right.

What's most scary is that we've caught ourselves hesitating in the past few days when offered certain specialists/services, when we're not sure who and what is covered by our insurer. Don't even get me started on the in-network/out-of-network bullshittery. But we've decided to get her the best care, and deal with the ramifications later.

American health insurance = SHOWER OF CUNTS!

The people who just gave me an underwhelming review:  ON THE LIST.

When I get through a workload that is four times the size of a normal workload and twice the size of anyone else's without any major accidents, the appropriate response is "Thank you", not "you're poor at time management."  When I give you a half dozen examples of the times I planned ahead, the appropriate response is "great, let's have more of that", not "you never plan ahead."  When I point to five projects where I have reduced urgency and extended timelines to make other people's lives easier the appropriate response is "we appreciate your efforts", not "you keep crying wolf!"

Dammit.

We have a corporate account with them.  The credit card people can't tell me the details of a charge because it was done online (except that it was charged to a card that USED to be under the name of an employee who hasn't been here for four years, but it isn't under that name any longer and no, they can't tell me whose name it IS under) and the online people can't tell me the details of the charge because I can't tell them who the card holder is.  I'm going with the 'cancel the card and just reimburse people' option from here I think.

If you make a selling point of a job "we respect the learning curve" and mention how it takes a while to get a new person up to speed; if you say "people who leave after a year are just starting to get good; if you give some feedback about stuff that could be done better, and then it's done better; well then, that implies that it takes longer than three months to be 100% ready to go. So when you buy out my contract because I'm not up to speed, I'll take your three months' pay, find another job in a lot less than three months, and not feel too bad about it. Also, you aren't too good at explaining how things work in your team.
