<<He's the Anti-Millar, yes, but he goes too far in the other direction.>>
That's perfectly fair.

Also: J.G. Jones was just the wrong artist for this.
Again agreed. The experimental nature of the story structure needed to come out with much more regularity than FC had.
I can't argue for against that point, since he didn't draw the whole thing. Jones's art was the only reason I gave it a shot, though, and the other artists are a large part of why I dropped it (along with it being nigh incomprehensible, of course).

"4. When will we learn the fate of Hawkman and Hawkgirl?
DD: Actually Hawkman and Hawkgirl are recuperating right now from the events of Final Crisis, and they'll be seen in one or two spots coming up, but they also have a big role in the first part of Blackest Night."
So, now they are not dead. No wonder that scene had to be confusing.

Then again, showing up in BN doesn't require one to be alive...
Maybe they are resting up before the next reincarnation?
Well, Starlin's special seemed to throw out the reincarnation as IT WAS ALL A LIE, but it was so confounding to most people I suspect they'll drop it (I didn't like it that much either, even though I hate the reincaration retcon).
"Maybe they are resting up before the next reincarnation?"
They are going be born again? HAWKBABIES!

The DiDio interview that Juan just linked to fills in the rest:
FC Aftermath: Run! Matthew Sturges Freddie E. Williams II
FC Aftermath: Escape Ivan Brandon Marco Rudy
FC Aftermath: Ink Eric Wallace Fabrizio Fiorentino
FC Aftermath: Dance Joe Casey ChrisCross
Someone was talking about the supposed "no-marks" who ended up writing Angel: After the Fall in the TV forum. They need to see this list for what real "no-marks" look like.
On the other hand, if you're going to try out new talent, you might as well do it with spinoffs from your last big event.
What happened to Starlin? Sure, his 70's work borrowed a lot from Kirby & Moorcock, but it was at least readable, by all accounts. Nowadays, he's simply rewriting characters to fit his storytelling tics.
Joe Casey and Chris Cross are known. It won't be All Star those Japanese guys from Final Crisis, but they are known.
Freddie E. Williams was one of the guys who penciled Seven Soldiers Mister Miracle. I know I have heard Sturges' name before. I have no clue what he has done for a living before this, though.
Same with Ivan Brando.
Marco Rudy, Eric Wallace, and Fabrizio Fiorentino; their moms don't know who the hell they are.

Sturges took over Blue Beetle, and will be closing out the book.
Oh yeah! He co-writes Jack of Fables and House of Mystery with Willingham. Oh, he is okay in my book then.

Joe Casey is a fine choice to follow up on one of Morrison's ideas... he gets Morrison's ideas better than most.
Ivan Brandon has done some stuff for Image (NYC MECH, some stories for the 24SEVEN anthologies, and the upcoming VIKING series).
Yeaaaaah, most of those 'no marks' are well established in comics: Two of the writers have written or are writing well regarded series for DC in the past, and one is a pretty well known indy guy. Likewise, Freddie Williams has been the regular artist on a couple of relatively high profile book and Chris Cross is freaking Chris Cross.
Or rather, mid level writers and artists /= no marks.
Any of you moaning minnies who hated Final Crisis want to send me your copies of Batman #682-683? The fuckers are sold out at Diamond apparently.
I wrote a scene set at their gravesite that I recently had to quickly rewrite into something not very good.
Ouch. So there is some truth to what Dixon said about Didio changing his mind all the time.

I wrote a scene set at their gravesite that I recently had to quickly rewrite into something not very good.
"Shaken by their experience with near death, Hawkman and Hawkgirl visit their local family law practitioner to learn the six things everyone needs to know about writing their Living Will!"
"Given their unique circumstances, the Hawks buy a crypt with a revolving door."
If it involves HAwkgirl waking u and finding Hawkman in the shower Patrick Duffy-style, it's all good.
Reading your post after Travis's was kind of hilarious. For a second I was wondering what they'd call the trade.
Do you actually enjoy writing JLA? It just seems to be constant editorial rewrites and bad art.
Heh. Reminds me of that timeless line from the end of the prologue to the first John Carter book: "He directed that he be laid in a tomb with an open casket and a door mechanism that could be opened ONLY FROM THE INSIDE."

It's still DC's best-selling non-Morrison, non-crossover book.
so, apparently most of the contradictions in FC are attributed to time distortions which i'm sure will at some point be attributed to superboy prime punching the walls of time.
