LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- A disturbed recluse who kept his dead mother in his freezer and shot at his neighbors when they came to his door was sentenced to seven years in prison on Monday.

Edith Schuth was an English woman who didn't trust Americans and sheltered her only son to the point that he had no chance at a normal life, according to those who grew up around the Schuths in the town of Campbell.
Her son, 52-year-old Philip Schuth, appeared in La Crosse County Court Monday. He is accused of hitting a neighborhood boy who was playing in his yard Friday afternoon and then shooting the boy's father, Randy Russell Jr., when he and his wife went to Philip Schuth's house to confront him about the incident.

Tacoma, WA - A man accused of a shooting spree at a crowded shopping mall told authorities to "just follow the screams" when he called them shortly before opening fire with a pair of assault weapons, according to court documents released Monday.
