President Barack H. Obama!!!!
I am absolutely speechless. A dream no longer deferred. A Change Has Come.
G-d Bless America and her President!

Obama wasn't my guy, but I can be proud to call him my President. He's an impressive individual.
Where's the search feature on this site? I wanted to dig up the exchange where I told a pessimistic Dwayne that "he might be surprised" about Obama's prospects.<g>
For the first time in my life (at least when I had a choice in the matter, unlike with a certain gubernatorial runoff election a decade or so ago), today I voted against someone. I voted for Obama even though I disagree mightily with several of his positions, and Biden’s as well. But I could not allow Joel’s Army Third Waver Sarah Palin anywhere near the Red Phone.
I just watched / listened to McCain’s concession speech. Gotta admit — it was classy. But I am so relieved that he didn’t win.
Of course, scientifically speaking, Barak Obama will be the 44th African-American President of the USA. ;-)
Is this like how Charlize Theron is African-American because she's from South Africa?

Oh, yeah. I was referring to the SNL skit with Tracy Morgan.

Amen, hermano. Bien dicho.
Si. Podemos!
".... but I can be proud to call him my President."
'Nuff said, Matt.
"This historic event was made possible by the sacrifices of Fannie Lou Hamer, Medgar Evers, Congressman John Lewis, the Freedom Riders, Viola Liuzzo, the survivors of the Edmund Pettus Bridge’s Bloody Sunday, and the blood, sweat, bones, and tears of all those old warriors who fought and for those who now fight for freedom, liberty and justice for all regardless of ethnicity, creed, or color."
Thank you all.
Exactamundo.
So on the drive to work it hits me… was this what it felt like when Jackie Robinson got in to the Major Leagues; when Joe Louis beat Max Schmeling; when Thurgood Marshall became a Supreme Court Justice?
I still don’t think it’s sunken in entirely for me.

D00d this is like...I don't know a man landing on the moon for me. there was no build up to this. We were never the speaker or the Vice president or anything liek that.
NOW we are the president of the fucking United States of America.
I mean, logically, I suppose it could have happened but I know, in my heart, I didn't really believe i w as gonna see it.
Now i am holding my kid up telling him that it could happen. but also that we need to step up to his example and be the best we REALLY can be. WE CAN BE THAT GOOD
I want to hear Dwayne's reaction too. I was positive this was going to be the outcome but back in the primaries, even when Obama and Hillary were the only two Dems left Dwayne was convinced the Dems were going to nominate a white guy. He WAS for once wrong and since he is right about so much I kind of want to get his reaction to the good news.
Congratulations America, you've given hope to all of us.
I was talking about it with my wife and I used the Robinson analogy also. And the Little Rock Nine. Completely forgot about Joe Louis until one of the commentators brought it up. It had to feel like one of those events to people like my parents and my grandmother.
Course we were also asking so how come if that was the case, why wasn't I running around the house like a madman?
Partly cause I was dazed. I mean NBC said stay tuned, went to break and about 30 seconds later came back with a graphic on the screen Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States of America! Dude I didn't even get a "and we have breaking news!" :)
But I think it was also because as historic and improbable of an event this was, I was pretty sure by 9:30 that the impossible dream was about to come true. This election of all time was shaping up to be like that college "game of the century" a few months ago, you know OSU-USC. And that was a blowout, too (at least on the scoreboard).
This is a wild, crazy, "praise the Lord!!" kind of day. And let's do as our President elect said, work with him to make this country better.
I think the most grateful people should be the citizens of Missouri who do not have to suffer the nationwide media scrutiny of Florida and Ohio.

In my own brand of observance, I wore my big, siver, O-shaped earrings to work on Wednesday. There was one woman who stared at me for a few seconds and said, "They're so big". Gotta love that big corporate culture. Note to self: consider braided styles after inauguration.

Of course if you really want to freak out your colleagues you must add the dashiki to your ensemble. ;-)
“D00d this is like...I don't know, a man landing on the moon for me. There was no build up to this. We were never the speaker or the Vice president or anything like that.”
What, two recent Secretaries of State (the current one being a Black woman!), and a long-time Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, isn’t enough of a built-up for ya?
How many Secretaries of State or Supreme Court Justices have later become President? I can't think of any.
yeah tehy aren't really on a track to be president. you die from one and retire fromt he other. besides let women have Condi since they graciously gave up the Presidency this year.
Well, Thomas Jefferson. Which isn't a very recent precedent.
“Which isn't a very recent precedent.”
Not a very recent president, either. ;-)
(Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
IIRC, Taft went the other way: from President to Chief Justice, the only person ever to hold the highest offices of both the Executive and Judicial Branches.
Arguably, the Chief Justice is more powerful than the President.
“besides let women have Condi since they graciously gave up the Presidency this year.”
Not so graciously, as I recall. Wasn’t there more than a little anti-Obama venom from Hillary and her supporters prior to the DNC Convention? Not to mention the bait-and-switch re: states that flouted the DNC’s early primary rules.
Hypothetical: what if McCain and the RNC had chosen Condoleeza Rice instead of Sarah Palin as McCain’s running mate? I for one would’ve been sorely tempted to vote for that ticket. Indeed, as I stated before, I voted less for Obama as against Palin.
Imagine if they had won, and (God forbid) anything happened to 72+-year-old relapsing melanoma-afflicted McCain. It would go down in history forever that the first ever Black President, the first-ever Female President, and the first-ever Black Female President, was a Republican! The Democrats would never live that down!
