I don't have bugs as such but dear God it is such a slow browser.

Zah?  Safari's primary "selling" advantage is its speed.

Connection speed is likely an issue from the start, I'd bet.

I'm on a decent 8MB connection with Virgin on a proper non-wanky line. Safari 3 was fast, the minute I upgraded the speed just died a death.

I think the browser's fine, but something funky's going on with the DNS queries. Once it loads, it tends to pop the content quick. But, it far to frequently seems to get held up/stall on some domains and occasionally needs to be kicked.

How do we clear search results? I used to be able to do it from the toolbar, but now it does all these nifty things except clearing.

Can you explain what you mean by search results?

It's a pull-down menu that appears when you use Google in the toolbar. It shows recent search results.

Ah.  History->Clear History will do that.  I do not know of a way to clear ONLY that, but I imagine if you want to remove evidence of searches from the search field you would also want them removed from the full history.

Thanks! I just don't like a cluttered list of past searches. There used to be a handy little option at the end of the pop-up menu, but I guess it was too convenient!

Try pulling up the full history page and going a keyword sort for google and then delete all.  I wonder if that will just clear the search and leave the rest of the history intact.  And if you want a better interface for the search field, try out inquisitor.
