I just updated my MacBook to Leopard. My roommate set up a samba server on his PC for backups over our wireless network, but Time Machine won't see it. Is there anything I need to do?

Here are my hardware stats in case it helps:

MacBook2,1

Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed:2 GHz

Time machine will only use local external drives, or special network drives.  (there are reasons both technical and maybe profitable)

If all you want is rutine backups, I recommend you get a copy of Super Duper.

Thanks for the note about the external drives.

What are the pros and cons of Super Duper vs Time Machine?

For one, it's much more customizable as far as what to back up and where it goes. Time Machine is much more all-or-nothing.

Good to know. But I'm only semi-technically inclined, and I don't have a lot of data, so all-or-nothing might not be a bad thing for me.

The con is that super duper will make a copy of your stuff at the time of backup, and erase what came before.  time machine will keep a copy of a file for each time it has been changed, if, say, you needed to co back to Tuesday's version.  Superduper is backup for a total crash kind of problem.  I actually use both.
