Ben Affleck, a Boston native, is directing this neo-noir classic by Dennis Lehane about two Boston detectives in the search for a missing child. If she wasn't such a wreck, Courtney Love would be perfect for the White trash mother. Patrick Kenzie and Angela Genarro have been cast

Casey Affleck

I actually think older brother Ben would have been better for this. I don't much like that I look tougher than Patrick Kenzie who survived an abusive father and a rough neighborhood.

Michelle Monaghan, leading lady of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. This was very very good casting.

She was tough and smart and sexy in Shane Black's movie and could believably take care of herself in a rough neighborhood. Pity that she could beat the crap out of the guy they cast for Patrick.

If they keep the ending, this could be a classic in the making, but I'm doubtful.

Interesting. Angie does seem pretty good casting tho.

It's great casting for Angie. I was hoping someone bigger would be cast as Patrick. BEN Affleck could have been okay.

It's shooting in Boston and since the Afflecks are Bostonian's, I bet it will feel authentic. Be interesting to see who Bubba is.

I have a clear idea in my head of who Bubba is, and although I don't doubt that Affleck is a fan of Lehane, the thought of one of my favourite books getting turned out for a movie fills me with dread.

See, Bubba is the hardest cast for me. If Jack Black could, y'know, act, I could see him in it.

But there are some decidedly hardcore scenes that will make Affleck my hero if he pulls them off, like the s cene where Broussard and Patrick go back to the house and find you know what in the tub.

Know who would be a good Cheese? Eminem. I am totally serious.

Affleck pulled together a good cast. Morgan Freeman, Michelle Monaghan and Ed Harris? Oh yes. The only one that fills me with dread is little Casey Affleck as Patrick. Too bad he didn't get his best friend Matt Damon for it.

Yes, Damon would be great, muscular and aggressive, but certainly attractive enough to carry him off. But Casey Affleck might yet surprise us

I hear the little Affleck is quite good in the Robert Ford movie with Brad Pitt as Jesse James

Elden Hensen - without a doubt, probably too young for the role, but its all about the face

He has that oddly child-like face atop the big frame, and he has acting chops, he was the best thing in the Butterfly Effect.

Also, Ethan Supplee as another possible contender

Suplee can be scary as seen in American History X.

What do you think of Eminem as Cheese?

He can act, and I think that it will be interesting to see how he interprets the role.

Bubba has been cast. Some rapper from Boston(At least he's filming in Boston and making his leads Bostonites) named Slaine.

Not bad. Hope he can act. Not a bad rapper though. His music will probably be in the movie.

I'm not sold on Affleck but the rest looked pretty good.

Delighted to see Michael Williams in the trailer though.

For fuck sake!

A US film about a four-year-old girl's disappearance has had its UK release shelved because of similarities to the Madeleine McCann case.

Gone Baby Gone, the directorial debut of actor Ben Affleck, had been due to be released on 28 December.

I was wondering if that would happen. I thought the Brits were hard and cynical and it was us Americans that got whiny about stuff like this?

Nah, I had a fiction book with my agent about a kidnapped kid (with the family involved) and he turned round and went 'not a chance, rework it for the US or shelve it for two years.'

Mulling options over. Reworking for the US could be a chunk of work but potentially lucrative if it pays off, so will probably do that.

Mate, as far as I am concerned, you can have ARCs of anything I bring out from now on, so no worries there.

Hey, it worked for John Connolly to have an American setting and protagonist for his stuff. In my experience, the crossover is usually easier between Europe and America when the protagonist is an American.

After this and MYSTIC RIVER, Lehane sure has great luck with adaptions of his books.

Wasn't there quite a bit more Bubba in the book? I thought I remembered feeling dread the entire time I was reading it because I was sure he would die.

Following up on this, it's been announced that Scorcese and DiCaprio will be making Lehane's SHUTTER ISLAND.
