Not sure about the name ^, bit too wishy washy for my liking, but I struggled to think of anything else.

Dreadnought Blu-tack mock up

Close up of the converted right arm.

Converted shotgun (still needs filling and filing).

Is that a stock plastic dreadnought or Forge World?

That looks to me like a very nicely converted plastic dread.

2 stock plastics. I also managed to get hold of a metal close combat arm so both dreads can be built with all weapon configs (apart from the lascannon I chopped up) and will have magnetised arms so they can be swapped.

Update! I have a Razorback coming in the post and am going to try using these legs to do a whole squad of praying marines. Other than that I have pretty much a full army... Just need a few more bog standard Marines to Templar-up and I'd be able to play (although I decided i definately wasn't going to actually play with this stuff, it seems sensible to make it a legal batch... )

More pics:

Bit clearer one of the marshall. Haven't done much to him, apart from the sword and the face plate, which I'm not really happy with and may re-do.

Champion in what I think is quite a cool pose.

Finshed Neophytes plus the random minis I got off ebay that I might use for Neophytes. Think I need to do something to make them a bit more marine-y but I'm not sure what

Any idea what minis those are that you got for the Neophytes? A couple of them would look really good for the Inquisitorial retinue I'm fantasizing about.

Everything's looking good so far, especially the Dread. I don't really have any suggestions as converting is a scary new world to me.

They were just listed as "Sci-Fi Cops (3) - 28 mm Suppresors". I'd tell you more, but for some reason the seller has been unregistered from eBay and I can't get to the listing...

They look vaguely like Void minis, but they could be from any number of generic SF lines.

I seem to remember that the guy was selling a lot of other Void minis, so that might be it.

My attempt to bulk them up. Any thoughts? I'm not that happy with it.

The bulking up looks good. You could always cut down some spare SM pads to apply to the shoulders?

I love how awesomely massive your dread looks in the background - that fucker'll be seriously imposing on a battlefield!!

But what if there were two?

Unfortunately the magnets aren't string enough to support the metal close combat arm I got so the second one will have to remain Fire Support Dreadnought.

Yeah, just a small one. Is already full of tools, but I'm keeping my WIP stuff in the bottom bit.

It's definitely worth doing. I have two of them, one small toolbox that I put all of my modelling gear in (files, glues, knives, drills, and uncompleted models), and a larger one that carries basing materials and a couple of these hobby caddies I found in Lakeland:

They are awesome for keeping plastic components in check - I have a couple holding marine bits, and one holding Dire Avenger bits.

You should definitely get some - they take up sod all space compared to sprues, and stop you from hunting around for everything when you're building a full squad.

Or maybe something like this?

Yeah, that looks great - do the little multi-bit ones fit in the big one?

Actually - are the compartments in the caddy thing big enough to fit a miniature? They could function as miniature storage too... The GW cases are nice enough but they have a big fucking GAMES WORKSHOP logo on them which I find a bit embarrassing.

The wonder of magnets: You can just add a couple in to the waist joint to make it look a bit taller.

How big is the base on the Dreadnought? I don't really want to use the stock one (just ordered a Dreadnought off eBay for £18).

60mm. Or 64 if you measure on the bottom. But I'm not going to bother, they stand up fine if you glue the feet on.

Not sure if that box is designed for the caddies, but I'd have thought you could fit at least one caddy underneath the fold-out levels.

You'd struggle to fit a horned chaos marine in the caddies, so it's shit for storage, but there are other case manufacturers around who aren't GW. I have a black GW hardcase with all of my Black Templars in, but also have a bunch of Warhammer minis (Beasts of Chaos and Nurglish critters) inside a Figures in Comfort case - and they sell foam sections separately to allow you to store various sizes of mini, including deeper foam sections for the storage of tanks.

It all depends on whether they're going to be used for playing 40k. If they are, then a base is dead handy, not just for measuring shots, but also for balancing them on sloping terrain :P

The stock bases are shithouse though. Especially if I had two of the same. For measuring shots, I thought you were meant to use the actual weapon barrel. Plus you can be a bit creative with what "base-to-base" means in close combat. I've got some resin base bits coming in the post so I might put them on bases but I'm not that bothered.

Forge World release their dreads on untextured 60mm bases - I'm not sure why they don't just do that regardless. I'm sure I bought a dread years ago that came with the feet already moulded to the base, which is considerably worse than just having a textured base.

I'm never sure about measuring for dreads - they're technically vehicles, but they're supposed to be based, and for marines that's where they shoot and assault from...

The same line that I got my (excellent) "alien ruins" resin bases from also has 60mm variants. I think I'm going to get one for my Dreadnought. Did you say Orc's Nest sell them?

Just one thing, though - am I the only person that misses the actual massive turret Razorbacks used to have?
